New football association and new head coach for Mount de Sales in 2014

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After 23 years under Robert Slocum, Mount de Sales will be going into 2014 with a brand new head coach: Keith Hatcher will be taking the reigns for a football team that only managed three wins in 2013 and suffered a 42-7 playoff loss at the hands of Deerfield-Windsor.

In order to help alleviate an offense that only averaged just shy of 19 points per contest, Coach Hatcher decided to make a big switch by moving wide receiver Carson Leatherwood to the quarterback position, “We feel he’s got all the tools athletically and from a leadership standpoint to be our guy.”

On the defensive side, the Cavaliers will only have five starters returning for a unit that allowed 22 points a game. Hatcher knows some of his players will have to answer the call, “We got some young guys on the defensive side of the ball that we’re going to ask to step up.”

With the excitement of being a new coach following some very large footsteps, and with the school beginning play in a different association, Coach Hatcher knows it can be easy to lose sight of the goal of winning football games, “We have tried to remain focused as a team on getting better each day.”

The Cavaliers begin their season on August 29th against Pacelli. Their first home game will be on September 12th versus GMC.
