New Flyers demonstrates electric bus to MTA board

MACON, Georgia (41NBC?WMGT) – The New Flyer Xcelsior electric bus rolled into Macon Wednesday.

The company is working to get a contract with the Macon Transit Authority to supply a fleet of electric buses. Mayor Robert Reichert and members of the MTA authority board took a ride on the new bus. Company leaders say the electric buses can save the county hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“We’re ready to produce these buses,” says New Flyer’s Director of Sustainable Transportation David Warren. “We have buses in operation in North America, both at Chicago Transit Authority and also Winnipeg Transit and we’re ready to start producing buses for Macon-Bibb County.”

Another electric bus company, Proterra, is scheduled to do a demonstration for MTA’s board in July.
