New emergency alert system that could save your life

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is launching a notification system that alerts you if you could be in danger. It’s called MBC Alert and you can get the alert via phone, text message or e-mail.

Director of the Macon-Bibb EMA, Spencer Hawkins, said MBC Alert will be an addition to the 57 emergency sirens throughout the count, “One of the nice things about MBC Alert is that this will tell you exactly what’s going on and what you should be doing.”

The alert will send a notification if there is anything from a tornado warning to an active shooting. Even if you are not a resident of Macon-Bibb, you can sign up for the alert.

“We give you the option of four different telephone numbers, landline numbers and e-mail addresses,” Hawkins said.

The alert also allows you to communicate with the EMA if you’re in danger.

“I can plot that on a map and send my resources directly to those areas that need the most assistance,” Hawkins said.
