Needle-Swapping Hospital Tech Has HIV

ENGLEWOOD, Colorado (KUSA)- A surgical tech accused of switching needles to steal the powerful painkiller fentanyl has tested positive for HIV.

Authorities say Rocky Allen stole the highly addictive drug from Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado in 2015 and 2016, swapping needles with patients who were prescribed the addictive drug.

For Robert Jacobs, the unexpected and unsettling news came when his phone buzzed and a headline about Allen, popped up on his screen.

“I got a text alert on my phone that said he was HIV positive,” Jacobs said, sitting in the kitchen of his Centennial home. “That’s a scary feeling. It hits too close to home.”

“My daughter went through surgery and the doctors took good care of her and things were great,” Jacobs added. “Then all of a sudden, here we are, you know, worried about what’s going to happen.”
