Navicent Health hosts Child Abuse Prevention Symposium

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Symposium is going on all day Wednesday at Navicent Health.

The gathering helps people understand why child abuse happens and how they can help.

Nearly 200 people heard Mayor Robert Reichert speak to start the day.

Director of the Crescent House Kem Sanderson says she’s happy to host the most people they’ve ever had.

“One of the things I hope people get from this is the number of professionals that are here because they want to know more about child abuse and child abuse prevention,” said Sanderson. “And the groups that work together–we have law enforcement we have DFACS, we have Bibb County Schools social workers, we have nurses we have mental health professionals.”

Sanderson says to be on the lookout next April for the symposium if you’re interested in going next year.
