Navicent Health holds lung cancer vigil

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Navicent Health is bringing lung cancer awareness to light.

Hospital officials held their third annual vigil to honor those who lose their lives to this disease. 

Dr. Darquita Loyd explained about 20-percent of lung cancer patients are non-smokers. 

“Most people that come in that are diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and if we can increase awareness in our community and let the community know that there are lung CT screenings out there to help get them diagnosed at an earlier stage,” said Dr. Loyd.

Dr. Loyd advises people from the ages of 55 to 88 who have a history of smoking to get a yearly screening.
