Murder Suspect Captured
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 16 year old Aurie Mathis was arrested Friday afternoon for the murder of 41 year old James Robert Young Jr.
On June 19th the two men were caught trying to steal a television by a resident. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office believes Mathis accidentally shot and killed Young after getting scared by the resident. The two men thought no one was home. When the resident yelled, Mathis allegedly turned around, fired a shot, and it struck Young in the head.
US Marshals with the Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force, Bibb County Sheriff’s Investigators, and the Bibb County Sheriff’s SWAT Team captured Mathis at a motel off Holiday Drive North after receiving a crimestoppers tip.
Mathis had been on the run since the 19th.
He was taken to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division for an interview and then later transported to the Macon Regional Youth Development Center on a Murder Warrant.
