MPD: Brown was ‘Primary Aggressor’ in Waffle House Shooting, Still Looking for Second Suspect

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The man accused of fatally shooting one person and injuring three others at the Waffle House shooting earlier this month had his commitment hearing on Thursday and police are still looking for a second shooter.

During the commitment hearing, 19-year-old Ashley Brown and his attorney, Veronica Brinson, heard the charges and evidence against him. Brown is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.

Macon police detective Dennis Terry says witnesses put Brown at the Waffle House off Chambers Road on December 9th. Terry says Brown was the “primary aggressor” and fired shots at several people, including the victim 20-year-old Christopher Crowder, but he did not kill him. Three other people were injured.

Brinson tells 41 NBC even though MPD does not believe Brown is the killer, she says he’s being charged so detectives can question him.

“It definitely puts pressure on you when you’re thinking I have a murder, a felony murder is murder, I have a murder case pending against me, I need to say something that might help me out,” Brinson said. “However, from a defense perspective again, we just have to be cognisant that anything he says could incriminate him.”

Brinson says her client has not gone to the police to give a statement. The case is now going to superior court. Brinson says she’ll be seeking a bond hearing to get Brown out of jail, but no word on when that will happen.
