Movie filming brings more business to downtown Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Production crews are going on day three of shooting “The Best of Enemies” movie in downtown Macon. It has not only brought a lot of buzz to downtown , but business as well.

“Our whole patio was full,” said Just Tap’d owner, Kaitlynn Kressin. “People were out here sitting and watching what was going on with the film crew.”

Kressin doesn’t mind the commotion going on in front of her business.

“To bring those different film industries in to film their movies, it’s really great for all the local businesses downtown,” said Kressin.

Production crews are shooting scenes for “The Best of Enemies” at the Macon-Bibb Government Center in downtown. They’re not only bringing attention to the set.

“We are marketing Macon to the film industry, not too bring movie stars, but to bring money here,” Chair of the Macon Film Commission, Terrell Sandefur. “This is economic development, serious economic development.”

Sandefur says anytime a movie shoots in Macon, they leave behind a lot of money.

“They’ve rented out the government building, Rosa Parks Square,” said Sandefur. “They’ve paid to have the streets shut down.”

Crews members, always need to eat.

“When they go to lunch, they’ll break for lunch,” Sandefur said. “They’ll either do the catering or they’ll go to one of the restaurants.”

Fans make their way downtown to see if they’ll catch a glimpse of the movie stars, Taraji P Henson or Sam Rockwell. Rockwell was on set Friday afternoon, shooting a scene outside of the government center.

“Just Tap’d, people were packed in there all day and night, until closing, until after closing,” Sandefur said. “So they’re really benefiting from this production filming here right now.”

Friday nights are pretty busy for Just Tap’d, but with filming going on into the weekend, they’re excited for more customers to join.

“To have the filming going on as well, I’m sure the patio will be packed,” said Kressin.
