MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A mother gathered with her family on Saturday evening to pay tribute to her son who died last year.

Last January, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said bullet holes were found in a car belonging to 26-year old Monquencio DeShawn Johnson after EMS responded to a 911 call about a car crash.

At the time, deputies said witnesses told them shots were fired near Spike Street and Broadway and that a silver Honda Accord was seen turning onto Broadway from Spike Street when the shots were fired.

The Honda Accord headed south on Broadway before Johnson lost control of the vehicle and collided with a pole and a parked box truck.

“We don’t have any leads on this,” Johnson’s mother, Latera Preston, said.

Since her son’s death, she and her husband now care for Johnson’s three daughters. Preston says neither she or anyone from the family has received any new information on the case but they will not stop trying until the person responsible is found.

“I just wish they would come forward and give us some closure,” she said.

Despite not having the closure she wants, Preston still gathered with family to release balloons in honor of her son with hopes that next year this time she will be able to say justice was served.

The investigation is ongoing and if you have any information. Call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 751-7500 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME if you have information.
