More Mayoral Candidates Qualify In Warner Robins

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The race leading up to Election Day in Warner Robins continued Wednesday, with more candidates qualifying, hoping to win a seat to represent the city.

On day three of qualifying, two mayoral hopefuls filled out paperwork to get their name on the November ballot in Warner Robins.

They qualified in two different styles.

City councilman Mike Brashear came to the qualifying desk with his wife as he paid the fees to run for mayor.

On the other hand, Chuck Chalk came to qualify with more than 20 supporters including some with a little more fur.

“The city needs good leadership and I believe that I’m a good leader. I’m capable, I have the experience on the base to represent and carry that knowledge outside the gate here and into city hall so we can represent the base well,” Chalk said.

Chalk is looking to continue the strong relationship between the city and Robins Air Force Base.

He wants to take what the base does well, and figure out how to create more opportunities outside of its gates if another round of BRAC hits.

“BRAC is an opportunity as well as a challenge, bases will win and bases will lose mission and we’re going to be in the opportunity to win mission,” Chalk said.

The confident candidates are battling for the mayor’s seat, after current Warner Robins Mayor Chuck Shaheen announced he’s running for post 1 in city council.

Current Post one councilman Mike Daley also announced he’s running for the same position, and he’s confused about Shaheen’s decision to run in council.

“The city charter has been in place a long time and all of the candidates I think know, that when they’re running for the post, those are the rules. No different then when you’re an athlete, and you’re playing sports, the rules are the rules,” Daley said.
