MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Police in Macon County have issued criminal warrants against a Florida man after using cameras and facial recognition technology to solve a fraud case that took thousands of dollars from an elderly resident.

Using Flock Cameras and facial recognition software, the Montezuma Police Department says it identified a vehicle and suspect involved in the case.

The scam involved a rented vehicle from Miami, Florida that was tracked across several Georgia cities, including Montezuma, Oglethorpe, Fort Valley, Byron and Atlanta. Flock cameras tracked the vehicle.

Police say facial recognition technology was used on images captured at a PNC Bank ATM in Montezuma, leading to a “100% match” of Antonio Nicholas Pitter from Miami.

“Criminal warrants has been signed for forgery of financial credit card, unauthorized use of financial transactions card, financial card theft, interference with government property and financial credit card fraud,” a Montezuma Police Department Facebook post said.

“I am proud of the work our staff has done on this case, especially Captain Christopher Hill,” Chief Eric Finch said. “I attend conferences and I am always looking for the best technology for our officers to do their job better.”
