Dog seen on video helps Montezuma police identify suspect

Police say surveillance video showed a white dog following the suspect, and officers later found Demario Taylor walking with what appeared to be the same dog.

MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man was arrested after Montezuma police say officers investigated several entering-auto reports and a stolen vehicle in the College Street area.

The Montezuma Police Department says officers received multiple reports Monday of entering autos during the early morning hours between about 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Police say a vehicle was also reported stolen from the area during the same time frame.

Officers say they reviewed Flock camera footage and saw the stolen vehicle traveling through several Montezuma neighborhoods between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in a neighborhood about a mile away.

As the investigation continued, police say officers reviewed neighborhood surveillance video and saw a suspect checking the doors of unlocked vehicles.

According to police, investigators also noticed a white dog following closely behind the suspect in several camera angles.

The next day, officers say they found a man walking in the area with what appeared to be the same dog seen in the surveillance video.

Police identified the man as Demario Taylor. He was taken into custody. Police have not released his charges.
