Monroe fire chief suspended for three days without pay

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Monroe County’s fire chief has been suspended without pay for three days.

According to Monroe County commission chair Mike Bilderback, Chief Donny Mercer was told to stay home after meeting with the commission during executive session on Tuesday.

Bilderback didn’t elaborate further, but says the board made the decision because Mercer made a personnel decision that it didn’t agree with.

“Donny has been a good chief, but we had to do what we felt was right,” Bilderback said.
