Monroe deputies warning residents of Microsoft phone scam

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a Microsoft phone scam.

Investigators say a person or persons call the victims and claim to work for Microsoft Tech Support. The caller tells the victim that he or she has to remotely log into the computer to fix problems with Microsoft software.

Once logged in, the scammers access banking and other personal information. They then use that information to steal the victims’ money.

The sheriff’s office is urging residents to be cautious of phone calls where the caller asks for personal information or to access personal computers or accounts.

If you’re a victim of a scam, call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at (478) 994-7043.
