MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man accused of scamming someone out of $35,000 in a fake land sale was arrested on Monday during an undercover operation in Monroe County, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they began investigating after being notified of a possible land scam earlier that day. After speaking with the victim, investigators determined that Tommy Thomason allegedly sold the victim a piece of land he did not own.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said investigators set up a meeting with Thomason at the property in question. An undercover investigator, posing as a friend of the victim, went with the victim to meet Thomason.

After the meeting, investigators moved in and placed Thomason under arrest. He was taken to the Monroe County Jail. As of Thursday night, online jail records no longer list him in custody.
