Two people were killed after a fleeing vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic on I-75 in Monroe County, according to deputies.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)-  Two people are dead after a vehicle fleeing from deputies crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a crash on Interstate 75, authorities said.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted a traffic stop around 10:08 a.m. Tuesday near mile marker 190 northbound. The driver of a dark sedan did not stop and fled, prompting a chase.

Deputies ended the chase after the vehicle crossed the median and began traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-75, where it collided with another vehicle.

Officials said both the driver and passenger of the fleeing vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash also injured others on the roadway. A passenger in the vehicle that was struck was taken to a Macon hospital. Authorities said debris from the crash struck a second vehicle, and that driver was also taken to a Macon hospital. They say both have non-life-threatening injuries.

No additional details have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
