Deputies: 1 found dead after house fire in Monroe County

Monroe County deputies say a male body was found inside a home after a house fire on Thursday. The cause remains under investigation.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Authorities are investigating after first responders found a man’s body following a house fire Thursday afternoon in Monroe County.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the fire broke out around 3:39 p.m. “in the area of” Lakeside Drive. The exact address was not provided. Monroe County deputies, the Monroe County Fire Department and the City of Forsyth Fire Department responded to the scene.

Once crews extinguished the fire, they found a male body inside the structure. Officials say they are withholding the man’s name until his family is notified.

The sheriff’s office said the case is under investigation.
