MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two people are in the hospital after a tractor trailer crashed into a Monroe County fire engine Thursday morning while crews were responding to another tractor trailer fire.

According to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Facebook post, units were dispatched at 6:17 a.m. to a working tractor trailer fire on I-75 northbound just before Johnstonville Road. While responding, one of the fire engines was rear-ended by a tractor trailer.

The sheriff’s office said both vehicles were single-occupant, and both drivers were taken to Atrium Health for treatment. They are still being treated for their injuries. There’s no word on their conditions.

The crash comes less than a week after a City of Forsyth Police cruiser was struck on I-75 and less than a month after a Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle was struck on I-16. In April, a Macon-Bibb County Fire Department fire truck was struck on I-75.
