Molly’s Cafe Brings Local Favorites to Downtown Macon

Downtown Macon offers a variety of places to grab a meal, but not every restaurant is a 2-in-1. It sits on the corner of Cherry Street and it’s named after the very well known Little Richard song, “Good Golly Miss Molly.”

Most customers used “good ol’ southern charm” to describe the eatery.

Owner Betty Mock says, “I wanted to make a place where people could feel like they were coming into my home.”

Betty and her son Chris own and operate Molly’s together.

“As far as a family restaurant, this is about as close to a family restaurant as you get,” says Chris.

The front half of the restaurant is shabby and chic, while the back half is a 50’s themed diner with local memorabilia.

Arthur Schmidt, a member of Molly’s staff says, “I’ve had a lot of old memorabilia didn’t know what I’d ever do with it, finally found a use for it and put it on the wall and we think it looks kind of nice, it generates a lot of conversation.”

Molly’s menu also generates a lot of conversation.

“The chicken salad is fantastic. It’s homemade, it has a lot of great flavor and you can really put a lot of time into perfecting the recipe,” says customer Stephanie Steinbart.

The popular chicken salad recipe consists of freshly shredded chicken breast, pickle relish, cranberries, chopped celery, mayonnaise, and onion dressing.

Customers say you get the homemade food with the downtown feel when dining at Molly’s.
