Missing teen from Perry was killed, two teens in custody
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Samuel Poss, the 18-year-old who was missing since Saturday, was found dead late Wednesday night.
Perry Police Chief Stephen Lynn says he was murdered during a news conference Thursday morning. Two men are in custody and charged with murder: Dakota White, 17, and Brandon Warren, 18. Both men are believed to have attended Perry High School with Poss.
Police found Poss’ body in the woods off Lake Joy Road, about five miles from the search area. Chief Lynn has no knowledge of drugs involved.
Samuel Poss was reported missing Saturday, Oct. 15 around 1:30 a.m. He was last seen leaving a friend’s house on Tucker Road. Multiple searches were conducted during the week – some using helicopters and cadaver dogs. Family says Poss recently graduated and was excited about joining the Navy.
White and Warren are currently in the Houston County Jail. Chief Lynn says additional charges are anticipated for the two teens.
This is the first homicide in Perry since 2008.
Chief Lynn says tips from the community about where Poss may have gone flooded in all week.
Eventually, detectives put enough pieces together to find his body.
“Perry is one of those kind of communities–there are a lot of communities like that across the nation–but Perry–when something happens, Perry stands up, and they come to our aid.”
The Poss family asked for time to grieve before speaking up about how they’re feeling.
“I don’t know that any of us could understand exactly what they’re going through. Obviously it’s devastating. Once you have child, you want that child to be always be safe.”
There is a vigil set for Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
