Minimal winter weather impacts this weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – While temperatures will get cold Saturday night into Sunday morning, the hopes for winter accumulations around Middle Georgia should not be high.
This Evening and Overnight
A sunny afternoon will become a cool and initially clear night across the region. Clouds will begin to fill in around midnight however as a cold front is coming from the northwest. Most of the night will be dry however a few rain showers will be possible around sunrise on Saturday morning. Low temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s accompanied by wind from red south-southwest at 6-12 mph. Gusts will likely range from 15-20 mph.
Daytime Saturday
A few rain showers may be ongoing as the sun comes up Saturday morning. After that expect a bit of clearing and midday sun. This will allow temperatures to climb into the upper 50s and lower 60s. However clouds will fill back in over the latter part of the afternoon and these may be accompanied by some light showers, especially in the later evening hours. The wind will shift from the southwest to the northwest throughout the day at around 5-10 mph. Gusts will push to around 15 mph.
Overnight Saturday/Sunday Morning
Rain will likely begin to move into Middle Georgia from the southwest late Saturday evening, becoming more widespread during the overnight hours. While wind from the northwest will work to cool temperatures as the rain falls, asking for these temperatures to get below freezing ahead of sunrise while rain is ongoing is a tall order. Often when moisture moves into an area it leads to a temperature increase or levels them off. On top of that ground temperatures will not drop below freezing at all during this timeframe; so even if a shift from rain into a mix or snow should occur accumulations will be near impossible given the warmth of the ground. Temperatures will also begin to rebound as the sun comes up on Sunday morning; this will ultimately lead to any wintry precipitation shifting back to rain anyways.
Sunday Afternoon and Beyond
Clearing is likely Sunday afternoon and the overnight hours will be clear and frigid with lows expected in the lower 20s. It will be another night where Middle Georgians should drip their faucets as well as bring any pets or small plants indoors. Sunny conditions are expected all day Monday with temperatures returning to the lower 50s in the afternoon.
