Milledgeville SPLOST Proposals

Baldwin County residents caught a glimpse of this years SPLOST proposals at a meeting on Thursday.

Representatives from Milledgeville City Council and Baldwin County Comission presented community members with proposals for both the city and county.

The projects proposed for funding covered a wide range of areas. They included public works and buildings, healthcare facilities and equipment,
landfill closure construction, and the water distribution system.

Milledgeville Mayor Richard Bentley says his staff was asked to develop strategic plans of what each department needed.

“Our last splost which will end in 2012 will not raise the 45 million dollars we had hoped it would 6 years ago so what we have done tonight is lowered our expectations to 40 million.”

Mayor Bentley hopes for better economic times, but if the SPLOST does not go through he says they will have to find other ways to fund the most needed projects.

Early voting for the SPLOST referendum began February 28th.

Election day for SPLOST is Tuesday, March 15th.
