Milledgeville police educate residents on distracted driving
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In efforts to reduce the number of wrecks and traffic fatalities in Milledgeville, police officers educated the public on the dangers of distracted driving in honor of Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Officers handed out over 200 brochures at the intersection of Montgomery and Elbert Streets. The brochures contained information on the different ways a driver can be distracted.
Officials with the Milledgeville Police Department found that distracted driving and following too closely have been factors in most of the accidents in the city.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,179 people were killed and an estimated additional 421,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashed involving distracted drivers, nationally.
