Milledgeville is one of the 889 newly accredited programs this year.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Milledgeville Main Street/Downtown Development Authority is now an accredited Main Street program after meeting several economic, preservation and revitalization standards.
Milledgeville is one of the 889 newly accredited programs this year, under the Main Street America program. Each Main Street program works to advance economic vitality and quality of life in its downtown and commercial districts.
“During an incredibly challenging year, these programs demonstrated the power of the Main Street movement to drive impressive local recovery efforts, champion small businesses, and foster vibrant downtown districts,” said Patrice Frey, President & CEO of Main Street America. “I am inspired by their hard work and confident that these accredited communities will continue to help their downtowns flourish in the next stages of recovery.”
Each year, Georgia Main Street, in partnership with Main Street America, evaluated the performance of the Milledgeville Main Street program. The program had to meet 10 national performance standards. Additionally, Milledgeville’s program had to complete the following:
- build meaningful and sustainable revitalization programs
- foster strong public-private partnerships
- document programmatic progress
- actively preserve historic buildings
In 2020, Main Street America programs generated $4.14 billion in local reinvestment, helped open 4,356 new businesses, generated 14,988 new jobs, led to the rehabilitation of 8,488 historic buildings, and clocked 983,702 volunteer hours.
