Middle Regional Airport Manager on Contour: ‘We’ve seen a lot of full flights’

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s smooth sailing for Contour Airlines at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

The service started offering flights to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) in August. Middle Georgia Regional Airport Manager, Erick D’Leon, says flights have been going well so far.

“We’ve seen a lot of full flights,” said Middle Georgia Regional Airport Manager, Erick D’Leon. “The holidays, Thanksgiving holidays are booked. Vacation for the kids that were out of school.”

“The first couple of weeks we saw a pretty good response in the sale,” said D’Leon.

According to sales data from Contour Airlines, on average, in part of August and all of September 45% of seats were filled. The airline is projecting that percentage to increase by 20% at the end of October. D’Leon says passengers moved 1,300 for the full month of September and in October, they’re expecting 1,900.

“Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday are typically very busy days, so much so we’ve thought about tweaking the schedule a bit to add an extra flight on those days,” said D’Leon. “Versus the slower days so we can make sure we’re maximizing the services here and offering what the community needs.”

The airport and airline are observing the first few months on what works and what doesn’t.

“What are their needs, what are their travel needs, fine tuning that,”said D’Leon. “We’ve always thought that if this goes well, let’s continue to push. They’re very interested in that. They’re just as in to it as we are.”

D’Leon says Contour Airlines provides deals often. Last week Contour offered one-way trips for $39. D’Leon says you’ll want to follow the airline on social media so you don’t miss out.
