Middle Georgia Woman Seeks Opportunity at ‘Paychecks for Patriots’

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Central Georgia Tech opens its doors to veterans across middle Georgia.

The ‘Paychecks for Patriots’ job fair was an opportunity for hundreds to get help with their job hunt, and resumes.

The Georgia Department of Labor hosted the event in five locations across Georgia: Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Savannah and Warner Robins. Commissioner of Labor for Georgia, Mark Butler says the organization chose the locations based on high populations of unemployed veterans.

“Focusing on helping our veterans, finding their place in the work force is one of our priorities of the Department of Labor,” Butler says.

Jeffersonville native Tommi Clark, 58, says after her company closed last year, she is desperate to find work.

Clark is not a veteran, but organizers welcomed her into the fair anyway. She says she has more than $15,000, and it is steadily increasing.

“The time I’ve been out, I’ve been looking for work openings and listening to job sites, but there’s not a whole lot out there,” says Clark.

She handed out copies of resumes and cover letters, but says she receive any offers.

“I feel hopeful. At least they know that I want them [jobs], and I have a chance to get them just as well as anybody else,” says Clark.

Clark says she encourages veterans, and civilians who are out of work to keep the faith.
