Voters across Middle Georgia cast their ballots Tuesday in key local elections, including school board races, city council seats and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendums.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Voters across Middle Georgia cast their ballots Tuesday in key local elections, including school board races, city council seats and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendums.
Baldwin County
Baldwin County voters approved a continuation of a one-cent sales tax for education (ESPLOST) that would raise up to $65 million over the next five years, funding school renovations, security upgrades and transportation improvements. The measure passed with 54% of the vote—1,191 to 1,001.
Bibb County
Voters in Bibb County chose to renew the county’s SPLOST, which would fund up to $450 million for infrastructure, public safety and economic development. 83% (5,233) of voters said yes to the renewal, while 17% (1,063) voted no.
Bleckley County
A Cochran city council race resulted in a tie for District 1, Post 1, with Trecia P. Gardner and Teresa Mack both receiving 44 votes, forcing a runoff. Dianne Lawson Lester won the District 3, Post 1 seat with 87 votes, defeating Tyler Lane Sapp, who received 68.
Voters in Bleckley County approved a $16.6 million ESPLOST renewal to fund school upgrades, security improvements and new buses, with 484 yes votes to 59 no votes.
Dooly County
Dooly County also decided on an ESPLOST referendum, where 79.18% of voters approved the measure, with 251 votes for and 66 against.
Johnson County
In Johnson County, Adrian residents voted for mayor and city council seats. Sandra Bailes won the mayoral race with 109 votes, defeating Wynola Smith, who received 61 votes. In the City Council Post 2 race, Bruce A. Miller won with 101 votes over Sandra L. Warter’s 65. In the Post 4 race, William Richardson won with 99 votes, beating Suzanne Poole Hutchinson, who received 69.
Macon County
Macon County voters chose a new sheriff on Tuesday. Carlos B. Felton avoided a runoff by just 10 votes, receiving 50.35% of the votes (1,499) to incumbent Richard Martin’s 46.12% (1,373). Christopher Parker received 3.53% of the vote (105).
Telfair County
Voters in Telfair County overwhelmingly approved a SPLOST measure, 450-81.
Treutlen County
In Treutlen County, residents weighed in on SPLOST and ESPLOST measures. According to election summary reports, both proposals passed, with SPLOST receiving 303 votes in favor and 56 against, while ESPLOST passed with 292 votes for and 65 against.
Washington County
Voters in Washington County decided two Board of Education races, as well as a SPLOST and a FLOST (Floating Local Option Sales Tax). 58% of voters said yes to the SPLOST, while 54% of voters said yes to the FLOST.
In the race for the Board of Education District 2 seat, Rita Jackson Hunt defeated Zach Webb 296-272. In the District 4 race, Rodney Walker defeated Felicia Henderson Davis, 314-157.
