Twiggs County Schools mourns death of teacher Michelle Capece
The district says Capece served Twiggs County students for 24 years and was recently named Teacher of the Year.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Twiggs County Schools announced Wednesday that longtime Jeffersonville Elementary School teacher Michelle Capece, who was recognized as the district’s 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year, has died.
According to a news release from the Twiggs County School District, Capece died on Tuesday.
She taught with Twiggs County Schools for 24 years and worked closely with students and their families. The district said she served as a Beta Club advisor and worked with STEM initiatives and the TMC Lab, described as a hands-on science, think, make, create lab.
The release said Capece supported Twiggs County athletics and regularly attended sporting events. She was known for bringing a cowbell to games and for purchasing hockey pucks for her students when they attended a STEM day hockey game with the Macon Mayhem so they could participate in a Chuck-a-Puck activity.
Twiggs County Schools said Capece individually supported many students in their educational and personal pursuits and that families frequently described her as one of their favorite teachers.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Serenity Funeral Home, according to the release. The district said additional information will be shared once arrangements are finalized.
