Mercer’s Thomas Claims Co-Player of the Week Honors

MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – After averaging 23.5 points per game and breaking a program single-game record, Mercer senior guard Bud Thomas was named Atlantic Sun Co-Player of the Week on Monday.

Thomas’ first career A-Sun weekly award follows a career-high 31-point effort at Lipscomb which saw the Highlands Ranch, Colo. native knock down a school record nine 3-pointers. Thomas also netted 16 points at Northern Kentucky on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor.

In two games, Thomas registered 47 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal while knocking down 12-of-21 3-point shots. Thomas has now scored 16 or more in three-straight games since removing the face mask he was forced to wear after breaking his nose on Jan. 30.

North Florida senior forward Travis Wallace split the weekly honor with Thomas after he scored 27 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in the Ospreys’ 86-82 win over Jacksonville on Friday. Thomas joins classmates Jakob Gollon and Langston Hall as Mercer players to capture league Player of the Week selections this season.

Mercer (15-5, 6-1 A-Sun) has won five-straight games and returns to the hardwood in a highly anticipated showdown with Florida Gulf Coast (12-8, 6-1 A-Sun) on Thursday. Game time at Hawkins Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
