Mercer’s Stampler Named to A-Sun Academic All-Conference Team
MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – Junior midfielder Brianna Stampler picked up the first postseason honor of her career when she was named to the Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference team as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Stampler kept Mercer’s streak alive as one of five A-Sun Conference members to place at least one player on the All-Academic squad since its inception back in 2011.
“I am very proud of Brianna and all the work she has put in both on and off the field,” head coach Tony Economopoulos said. “Brianna typifies the type of player we want in our program and I am glad she was recognized for her efforts by the conference.”
Stampler finished tied for second on the team and tied for 10th in the A-Sun Conference with 14 points on four goals and six assists.
The Davie, Fla. native’s six assists were tied for the team-high and ranks tied for third in the A-Sun.
Stampler registered three points or more in four contests this season including a goal and an assist in a 3-2 road win over East Tennessee State on Oct. 4.
Stampler balanced her play on the field with her work in the classroom as shown by her 3.59 GPA as a Holistic Child major.
Stampler and the rest of the Bears return to action on November 2 when it welcomes Stetson into town for the first round of the A-Sun Championship. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bear Field.
