Mercer’s Massi named to Brooks Wallace Award watch list
Massi was the only player in the Atlantic Sun Conference named to the list and is the first Mercer player to garner the honor since Evan Boyd was selected to the initial list back in 2010.
Massi has been a key cog in Mercer’s lineup this season ranking in the top-10 in the A-Sun Conference in several statistical categories including batting average (9th – .354), on-base percentage (8th – .439), runs scored (2nd – 42), hits (T-6th – 57), total bases (7th – 80) and walks (T-5th – 23).
The Powder Springs, Ga. native has also been stellar defensively for the Bears this season as he currently leads the A-Sun Conference with 156 assists and is on pace to break the Mercer single-season assist record of 187 set by Jeff Thompson in 1983.
This is the second major award Massi has received this season as he was named the A-Sun Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year on January 29.
Massi and the rest of the Bears are back in action on April 25 when they begin a three-game series against Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla.
