Mercer University holds candlelight vigil for slain basketball player

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Mercer University students, staff, and basketball players came together last night to hold a candlelight vigil in memory of Jibri Bryan. They had a moment of silence, then lit candles, prayed, and sang “Amazing Grace.”

One-by-one people walked over to the players’ bench where Bryan’s jersey and shoes were on display, as a remembrance of the athlete and father who loved the game, and his community.

“The thing I take away is just how much he loved being here how much he loved his teammates and how much he love his family and he cared deeply about everything he was apart of.” Said Mercer Basketball coach Bob Hoffman.

There is no word yet on if the university will do anything special to remember Bryan at Saturday the February 6 basketball game against The Citadel.
