Mercer medical students screening for blood pressure, glucose levels

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several Mercer medical students are trying to help residents address possible health issues.

A group tested people’s blood pressure and glucose Wednesday afternoon.

One student says she and her classmates have come out since the beginning of the year to a good turnout.

“We really want to address some of the problems that are happening in Bibb County and the Macon area. We have a problem with hypertension, high cholesterol, things like that,” Mary Read, a second year medical student, said.

The group is also putting together anonymous surveys trying to pinpoint what the cause of the health problems might be like substance abuse or caffeine.
