Mercer University’s fall enrollment sets new record

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Mercer University’s fall enrollment set a new record surpassing 9,000 students for the first time.

Currently, there are a total of 9,026 students enrolled at Mercer’s 12 campuses.

The university also set a record for its freshman-to-graduation retention rate of 73.2 percent.

Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management Dr. Penny Elkins says Mercer credits its personalized touch for its enrollment gains.

“The students know that we are going to be here for them,” Dr. Elkins said. “We’re going to continue to provide that high-quality education, we’re going to do it in an environment that’s safe and responsible and a place where they know they’re going to be cared for and have the highest academic opportunity.”

Last year’s record final fall enrollment was three percent lower than this fall.

Dr. Elkins says even though enrollment is up, Mercer prides itself on small classes.
