Mercer Defeats Lipscomb in ASun Quarterfinals

For the Mercer Bears, this is the game of the year. All of the practicing, training, and working came down to this quarterfinal matchup against Lipscomb.

Coming into the game, the Bears won 8 of the last 11. A great crowd rocked the UniversityCenter.

Early on in the 1st half, Mercer down 9 to 6, Brian Mills hits a jumper in the lane to cut the lead to 1.

Later on in the 1st half, Langston Hall found Mark Hall in the corner for a three and he drained it.

Lipscomb would answer, as Jordan Burgason knocked down a 3 of his own.

Mercer with the lead,16-13, as the ball goes inside to Paul Larsen and gets 2 with the left hand.

Mercer would extend their lead  in the final seconds of the 1st half. Lipscomb’s Josh Slater put up the 3 it rimmed off the iron and Chris Smith grabbed the rebound and hit Langston Hall on the outlet. Hall crossed half court, with time winding down and drained a buzzer beater as time expired.

Mercer would keep a double digit lead for most of the 2nd half and goes on to win 73-63.

Brian Mills lead the Bears in scoring with 27.

The Bears will play number one seed, Belmont tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the UniversityCenter. It’s the matchup everyone wants to see and Tournament hopes remain alive here in Macon.
