Mayhem drops debut 5-4 after shootout
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Mayhem scored four goals in their debut Friday, but that wasn’t enough to knock off defending Southern Professional Hockey League champion Knoxville.
The Ice Bears (1-0) won a shootout 3-1 to take the season opener 5-4.
The game was tied at 4 after two periods. Both teams were held scoreless in the third period and in overtime.
More than 3,000 showed up for Macon’s first official minor league hockey game in more than 10 years.
The Mayhem (0-1) hits the ice again Saturday against Mississippi. The puck drops at 7:30.
