Mayhem coach talks about building team

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Mayhem coach Kevin Kerr met with fans Wednesday at a grand opening for Genghis Grill off Bass Road.

Kerr was hired in February to lead Macon’s first minor league hockey team in a decade.

He scored 677 goals in his 19-year career as a minor league professional player. Now, he’s working on building a team from scratch.

“We’ve committed to probably 14 or 15 guys already,” Kerr says. “We’re only in April-May, so I’m really looking forward to the group of guys we have coming in. They’re good character people. They’ll be great in the community. That’s what this organization is all about.”

Kerr adds the team can have 30 players at the start of camp, which is the second week of October. The season begins October 23, but Kerr isn’t sure if the game will be played in Macon or somewhere else.
