Man wanted in connection to Houston County murder

UPDATE (9/26): The Houston County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Corey Deshawn Humes on Thursday. He was taken into custody in Riverdale. Humes is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence in connection to the death of 23-year-old Curtis Thomas.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man it thinks was at the scene of a murder last week.

23-year-old Curtis Thomas died from single gunshot wound to the chest on Sept. 14 at the Pinewood Village Mobile Home Park off Feagin Mill Rd.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help finding 33-year-old Corey Deshawn Humes. He’s wanted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence in connection to Thomas’ death.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office arrested two women for for giving false statements related to the homicide investigation. They are Cynthia Bragg, 62, and Jennifer Brown-Gammill, 33.

An investigation into Thomas’ death began when he was found lying on Maplewood Dr. with a gunshot wound that ultimately killed him. Witnesses reported hearing two or three gunshots. Thomas was seen running down the street and tossing a handgun to the ground before collapsing.

Investigators are also looking for a black, full sized pickup truck that was seen leaving the trailer park at the time of the murder.
