Man sentenced to 40 years for Cobb County robberies

MARIETTA, Georgia (AP) – An Atlanta man who admitted to committing multiple robberies to support his drug habit has been sentenced to 40 years.

Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds says in a statement that Friday, 26-year-old Emmanuel Lee Dukes pleaded guilty to armed robbery and four robberies. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 20 years on probation.

Over the course of nine days in May 2015, Dukes robbed four banks and a convenience store in Cobb County, netting just over $8,000.

When robbing the Austell convenience store, Dukes was armed with a handgun.

Dukes was arrested after his mother saw a news report about the robberies and identified him to police. Assistant DA Shep Orlow says Dukes told police he committed the robberies to support his drug habit.
