Man found shot to death in Unionville neighborhood

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Investigators are looking for the person responsible for shooting and killing a man, then leaving him dead on the streets in west Macon.

Macon-Bibb Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley says, “About 9 o’clock shortly before 9, a call came in that there was a body off of the Pansy/Iris street area here actually it’s in that alley way back there. What we find is a black male subject looks to be in his 20s.”

The victim, identified as 22 year old Hillard Martin of Macon was found dead lying on the ground in an alley in the Unionville neighborhood. A shocking death is what neighbors are calling it.

Lt. Randy Gonzalez with The Macon-Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says, “The victim had multiple gun shot wounds so our investigators are investigating this as a homicide right now.”

According to residents living in the area who did not want to speak on camera, Martin was a nice person who did not bother anyone. As of now, law enforcement officers are looking for answers to who shot Martin and why. They’re urging people to come forward with any information.

“Just to see if anyone may have seen or heard anything this morning or last night,” Gonzalez adds.

While the investigation is ongoing, an autopsy will be performed to reveal the cause of death. Investigators do not know how long Martin had been dead before they found him. Coroner Leon Jones says this is the 21st homicide in Macon this year.
