Man fires shot at officers while attempting to flee Warner Robins Police

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man fired a weapon at Warner Robins Police officers Wednesday afternoon while attempting to flee.

That’s according to a WRPD news release, which said it happened following a traffic stop on Suzanne Drive just before 12:30.

The release said an officer and a trainee attempted to pull over a Honda Accord for a seat belt violation.

“The vehicle fled the stop, but officers did not pursue,” the release said.

The officers, who had previously queried the tag, found the vehicle at the homeowner’s home on Oklahoma Avenue.

“The driver, after seeing the officers, fled on foot,” the release said. “As officers gave chase, the driver fired a shot from a handgun at the officers.”

The driver, who police said they’d identified but had not processed, was found hiding behind a shed in a backyard on Carolina Avenue. The gun that was fired was also located.

Northside High School and Parkwood Elementary were placed on Code Yellow for student and staff safety.

“Further details will be given later,” the release said.
