Man convicted of hiring a hit man sentenced to life in prison

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 10 years for his part in a murder-for-hire scheme.

Devasko Lewis was convicted April 17 of hiring a hit man to kill his business partner.  The hit man killed the wrong person.

“The consecutive 10 year sentenced that got tacked on to life without parole sentence, which means I suppose, that if he were to die in prison he still owes the state of Georgia 10 more years,” says Lewis’ defense attorney, Franklin Hogue.

Hogue argued the life without parole sentence was unconstitutional.  The judge disagreed.

Houston County Superior Court Judge George Nunn allowed Lewis to get back some of his property from his former business partner, including a Cadillac Escalade and a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
