UPDATE: Man arrested in connection with double homicide at Washington County apartments

UPDATE (8/1/25): A man wanted in connection with a double homicide in Sandersville is now in custody.

According to Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, Damian Reaves was taken into custody just after 2 p.m. Friday.

Multiple agencies took him into custody on Habersham Street in Milledgeville, according to Cochran, as part of a “coordinated, multi-agency effort” and after “crucial tips provided by concerned citizens.”


UPDATE: Authorities are searching for a man wanted in connection to a deadly shooting that left two people dead in Sandersville.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Damian Kennon Reaves — also known as “Knowledge” — is wanted in connection to the shooting that happened Sunday night at Washington Manor Apartments.

Sheriff Joel Cochran said the department is working closely with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Sandersville Police Department in the ongoing investigation.

Reaves is considered armed and dangerous.

SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting late Sunday night in Washington County.

According to Sandersville Police, it happened just before midnight at Washington Manor Apartments, located at 700 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

Police responded in reference to a shooting and found two people had been shot. One of them was pronounced dead on the scene and the other was taken to Washington County Regional Medical Facility.

The identities of the victims have not been released.

Police say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Eastman Office is assisting with the investigation.
