Man arrested after leading law enforcement on multi-county car chase

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Minnesota man is facing several charges after leading law enforcement on a multi-county car chase.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the chase started around 11:30 Monday night in Bibb County. Monroe deputies were told Bibb deputies were chasing a bobtail tractor trailer on I-75 northbound that was driving recklessly and without headlights.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the tractor trailer was trying to hit other cars on the interstate as well as several patrol vehicles. Deputies tried to shoot out several of the vehicle’s tires, but it didn’t work.

According to a news release, Henry County law enforcement joined the chase and put out stop sticks, but the tractor trailer continued driving northbound on the interstate. Near mile marker 206 a Monroe sheriff’s deputy shot at the vehicle’s front tire, but it continued to drive on the rims. Law enforcement called off the chase when it got near a construction area in Henry County.

The driver of the tractor trailer, 26-year-old Benard Mageto Monyoncho of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, was caught in Atlanta. He is charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, open container of alcohol violation, DUI, reckless driving, littering, and not exercising due care when operating a motor vehicle.

No one was injured during the chase.
