Macon’s birthplace celebrates Christmas
Fort Benjamin Hawkins celebrated their ninth annual Frontier Fort Christmas celebration.
“This is Macon’s heritage and it’s only right that we celebrate it for Christmas,” project coordinator Marty Willett said. “Fort Hawkins belongs to everyone in the city.”
The event had apple cider, cookies and a wide variety of treats.
Also, a large Christmas tree adorned the welcome center.
“I found this tree in the Pleasant Hill community and the owner was so happy to give it to us,” Willett said.
The history of Fort Hawkins was shared to visitors and tours were given.
Organizers say the event was such a success that they will continue it next weekend.
“Come on down and learn about Macon’s birthplace,” Willett said. “This is such an important part of our history.”
