Macon woman killed while crossing the street

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon woman was killed when she was hit by a SUV, Saturday night.

The victim has been identified as, 53-year-old Jeanette Harris, according to a Bibb County Sheriff Office news release.

The accident happened around 11:38 p.m., on Jeffersonville Road near Mogul Road.

“Harris was crossing from the northbound side of Jeffersonville Road to the southbound side when she was struck by a 2001 Ford Explorer…that was traveling east,” continued the news release.

The driver of the Ford Explorer has been identified as 53-year-old Stephanie Stephens of Jeffersonville. Stephens has not been charged with any traffic violations.

Harris was taken to Coliseum Hospital by ambulance. She was pronounced dead at 12:10 a.m., Sunday by Coroner Lonnie Miley.

No one else was injured.

The fatal accident is currently under investigation.
