Macon Woman Killed In Collision With Dumptruck On Mercer University And Burton

A Macon woman has died after police say she turned in front of an oncoming dumptruck. Macon Police responded to the accident at Mercer University Drive and Burton Avenue around 2:20 this afternoon.

A Buick, driven by 40 year old Stacy Williams, was hit by the truck,
then flipped into a nearby parking lot. Williams was declared dead on the scene.

There are reports that Steven Roy, the man who was driving the dumptruck, ran a red light; Macon police will not comment on that,
saying the accident is still under investigation.

Police say Roy attempted to avoid the collision, but was unable to do so. Williams’ vehicle also collided with another vehicle at the time of the accident. The driver of that vehicle, Shandra Green, was taken to the Medical Center by a friend but was later released.

Roy was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia by ambulance.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says Williams’ pastor apparently spoke to her on the phone moments before the accident.

Power lines were severely damaged because of the accident,
and all four roads around the intersection were blocked off for several hours.
