Macon water park to open on Memorial Day

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon is getting a water park, just in time for the summer.

It may just be a bunch of dirt now, but in a few months you won’t be able to recognize this place. A water park with a number of different activities is currently under construction at the Sandy Beach Park on Lake Tobesofkee.

“Real wave action in the wave pool, lazy river. You can just float the day away. The kiddie area is going to have its dunk bucket and its kiddie slide,” Lost Island General Manager Misty Gamble said.

Right now the property sits on ten acres, but Gamble tells 41NBC they can grow into an additional 25 acres down the road.

The $5 million dollar project is expected to open this Memorial Day. If you’re marking your calendars, you should know this mini vacation won’t be too hard on your wallet.

“Admission rates are going to be based on height. It’ll be $15.99 for 42 inches and up, below that $9.99,” said Gamble.

Park developers are building Lost Island to give Middle Georgians a chance to escape the stress of their every day lives. But a water park in Georgia? Wouldn’t they need to close down during the winter?

“In the off season, that Olympic pool is going to be covered with an inflatable dome,” explained Gamble.

Pool lovers can enjoy the water all year long.

Lost Island’s website goes live online next week. You can buy Early Bird Special season passes before the prices go up in May.
