Macon storage facility robbed

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County sheriff’s deputies are trying to find who is responsible for breaking into 20 storage units at a Macon facility.

Reginald Wilmore spends most of his time on the road as a truck driver. He rents out a storage unit at Simply Self Storage.

“I don’t get a chance to run back in town so I need to make sure my property is as safe as can be,” Wilmore says.

After driving down from Michigan on Thursday, he found his unit and others vandalized. Authorities say thieves broke the gate and then cut the locks to get into 20 units.

Wilmore tells 41NBC losing those irreplaceable items only makes the situation worse.

“I do a lot of model collecting everything from the Empire State Building, Twin Towers, Statue of Liberty , probably valued around $2,500,” Wilmore explains.

The Georgia Self Storage Association suggests you choose a facility with security cameras, make sure there’s controlled access with a gate or key pad and finally, make sure the company requires a photo ID to rent.

Wilmore kept good records of what was in storage. Now, he’s reporting everything stolen to his insurance company and is working to find another storage facility.

Deputies say they are reviewing surveillance video of the property and they don’t have any suspects.

41NBC reached out to officials with Simply Self Storage and they declined to comment.
